Gordon Gallagher is an old friend of Jerry Blocks, he is very well known throughout football having played the game with distinction throughout the seventies. Gordon was a tough tackling central defender who took no prisoners. As with many players of his generation, Gordon spent most of his free time in either the pub or the betting shop. As a coach, Gordon has some very old-fashioned ideas which aren't best suited to the modern game. He expect his players to approach the game the same way he did as a player and when they dont - he gets annoyed.
Gordon Gallagher arrived at the club halfway through the 1999/00 season. At this point he was heavily in debt due to his gambling addiction and he needed money fast. He moved to Harchester because his old friend, Jerry Block, was now the chairman of Harchester United. Gordon started off by offering him some tactical advice. Not being a football man himself, Jerry was impressed by Gordon's knowledge of the game, so much so that he offered him a job as Director of Football at the club. Gordon took a hands on approach to this role and he often tried to interfere with team selection, Luis was not best pleased. Shortly after Gordon took on the role, temperamental striker, Scott Lucas went AWOL and the club couldn't get in contact with him. Gordon helped calm the situation, he found Scott at his mother's house in London and he soon convinced him to return. When Luis picked up an injury, Jerry asked Gordon to fill in as caretaker manager on a temporary basis. It was obvious to everybody but Jerry that Gordon was out of his depth. His training techniques were old fashioned and the players weren't responding well to them. This caused many arguments amongst the players. Didier Baptiste confronted him over his management style, Gordon didn't respond kindly to this and this caused a lot of tension between the pair. Then, after several insults in training, Wes Kingsley eventually lost his temper with Gordon he decked him during a training session.
Soon after becoming the caretaker manager, he was approached by men who he owed large sums of money, he was given his final warning and they repossessed his car. It was at this point that Gordon started leaking stories to the press based on his inside information to get his hands on some money. As things got worse for Gordon and his desperation grew for more money he put money on Leeds winning a match over Harchester. He dropped several first team players and replaced them with players from the youth team. These players weren't ready for first team action. The stories regarding the club were getting out of hand at this point and they were causing Jerry much embarrassment. Marilyn had suspected Gordon for some time so she decided to bug his phone. Not only did they catch Gordon selling the stories to the press, they also caught him placing the bet on Leeds to win! Gordon packed up his belongings and he left Harchester, having lost his job and betrayed his friend.
