Julie Alexander played by Julie Smith

Julie Alexander played by Julie Smith

Julie is new to the club at the beginning of the 1998/99 season. She works in the canteen, alongside Kelly James and before long, the pair become inseparable. Julie is always up for a laugh but she is often guilty of not taking her job as seriously as she is expected to. Julie doesn't share Kelly's passion for football but she does share her passion for footballers. Working at a football club means that she meets more than her fair share of them but Julie has no intention of becoming a traditional footballers wife. She is strong minded, sensible and street wise which means she can handle herself when it comes to any man, even Warren Masters.

Working in the canteen, the girls see a whole host of people throughout the day but they took a particular interest in Warren Masters, he picked up a major injury shortly after he signed on as a professional so he spent most of his time either in the gym or in the canteen. He didn't have many friends in Harchester so they took it upon themselves to get to know him better. After Warren broke down on his return to action, it was Julie who was there to comfort him and it soon became clear that they had feelings for each other. Both Kelly and Julie decided to spend Christmas at Warrens because otherwise, he would have spent it alone. While they were cooking his Christmas dinner, they opened a bottle of vodka and soon afterwards the girls fell asleep, leaving the oven on. Warren got tired of waiting so he stormed out and went to the youth hostel in search of some Christmas dinner. When the girls woke up, Warren was the gone, the dinner was burnt and a strange woman was standing at the door. The woman turned out to be Warren's sister, Mica, who had traveled down from London to see her brother. The girls had no choice but to bring her with them to the youth hostel. Warren wasn't pleased to see her and he wanted her to leave straight away. The following day, Mica convinced Julie to travel down to London with her. The pair had no money so they decided to drop in on some Harchester players who were staying in the area. They tried to get Fletch and Sean to go clubbing with them but the pair had severe food poisoning. It wasn't all bad news though, Mica managed to rob enough money from them to buy herself and Julie a few drinks. When they got back to Harchester, Warren wasn't happy. He was having a very tough time of it and when it was confirmed that he would never play football again, he took his own life. Julie became worried when she hadn't heard from him for over three days, so she decided to call in on him just to make sure he was ok. She got no answer when she knocked on the door, so she called the police. They broke the door down, Julie wandered in, which is where she found Warren. He had died from carbon monoxide poisoning, Julie was distraught. It took her a long time to get over Warren's death but she eventually put this period of her life behind her and moved on. At work, she got talking to youth team player, Leon Richards and they soon started seeing each other. Leon was on the verge of breaking into the first team but due to off the field problems, he was finding it increasingly hard to do so. In the end Leon sorted out his problems and he established himself in the first team after a great performance in the FA Cup final. Soon afterwards, he was offered a professional contract at the club and he was now earning enough money to support his son, Clayton. It also left him free to concentrate on his football and to try and get his life back in order, a life in which Julie played a big part.

The following season brought European football to The Dragons' Lair. After a poor start in the league, the team had a chance to put things right when they were drawn against Ajax in the early rounds of the UEFA Cup. The team traveled to Amsterdam determined to enjoy their European adventure. Many excited fans made the trip to Amsterdam, including Kelly and Julie. The game finished 2-2 but Harchester were very happy with their performance, considering that they had scored two away goals. When the team arrived at the airport, they were informed that their flight had been delayed. Agent, Biloo Kapour was also flying back to Harchester and when he heard the news, he offered several of his clients a seat on his private plane. Leon decided that he had waited long enough and before he boarded the plane, he proposed to Julie, she agreed to marry him and Biloo allowed her to fly back to Harchester on the private plane with Leon. Sadly, the plane never reached its destination, it disappeared without a trace and several club personnel including Julie Alexander, Leon Richards, Sean Hocknell, Viktor Tankayev, Gary Blackburn and Biloo Kapour were never heard from again.
