Luis arrives in Harchester to a media circus towards the start of the 1998/99 season. Jerry hopes his signing will raise the clubs profile. However, the clubs current strikers are in great form and with the arrival of Luis, their seems to be one striker too many. He immediately takes a liking to the chairman's wife and she welcomes him to the club by taking him out for dinner. On the field, he starts well but the teams form begins to fade, Luis is dropped in favor of Sean. Luis doesn't take kindly to this decision and he storms out of the dressing room. It looked likely that this would be the end of his Harchester career but because of his feelings for Lynda, he decided to persevere. It's at this point that he starts to get serious about her, she reveals that she feels the same, although she can never act on those feelings. After Ian Coates gets the sack, Luis begins to get his form back under Frank and he plays a major role in their FA Cup run. When Patcham turns down the job on a more permanent basis, Luis is asked to take over as player/manager., he accepts. Things are going well for him both on and off the field at this stage and Lynda finally admits that she is willing to leave Jerry for him. Jerry starts to become suspicious of the pair and he suspends Luis from the club after Mica Hocknell makes rape allegations against him. He is soon cleared of these allegations but he has already decided to leave the club. He has plans to return to Argentina with Lynda. On the morning of the final, Luis is convinced to play one last match for the Dragons. He agrees to play and he scores twice as Harchester beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final. During the trophy celebrations, shots are fired onto the pitch, little did Luis know but he was the intended target.

Lynda developed Amnesia after she was shot during the Wembley shootings. As a result, Luis is forced to stay in Harchester. However, Lynda can't remember him or their affair. Luis decides to look for a move abroad and Real Madrid come in for him. After the draw against Ajax, Luis flies to Spain to negotiate terms instead of returning to Harchester on Biloo's private plane. The plane never arrives in Harchester and as a result, Jerry thinks Luis is one of the casualties. However, Luis arrives back in Harchester, safe and well. After the plane crash, he decides to stay in Harchester and he rejects the offer from Real Madrid. He signs Wes Kingsley from Leyton Orient as a replacement for Sean Hocknell and he convinces his old friend, Ray Wyatt to become the clubs assistant manager. After spending a lot of time together at the club, Marilyn develops feelings for Luis. Luis likes Marilyn but he doesn't love her. After Marilyn successfully moves some money around, Luis is allowed to sign French international, Didier Baptiste. Both Luis and Ray have worked with Didier at Monaco. Luis starts to get impatient when Gordon Gallagher is appointed as Director of Football at the club. Gordon is very vocal and he tries to dictate team selection, he even forces Luis to take a pain killing injection to play. This backfires and only aggravates the injury. After the match, Gordon is appointed as caretaker manager while Luis receives treatment for his injury. The lads dont get on with Gordon and after he is dismissed, Ray is appointed as manager. He decides to drop Luis, he doesn't take kindly to this and after an argument, he hands in a transfer request. After spending the night with Marilyn, Luis admits that he is in love with someone else. Lynda saw him leaving Marilyn's room and she becomes jealous. She admits that she is still in love with him and after the pair get back together, she starts to tell him her theories about the shootings and the pair work together to bring Jerry down. Meanwhile, Luis signs a pre-contractual agreement with Boca Juniors, meaning that he will be moving back to Argentina at the end of the season, Lynda agrees to go with him. When Karl Fletcher returns to the club, he brings a video tape that he made on FA Cup final day. On the video, Jerry is seen handing a package to a strange man. Lynda finally has the proof she needs but the evidence is still in-conclusive, so instead of going to the police, she attempts to blackmail Jerry. She confronts Jerry and gives him the option of going to jail or signing everything he owns over to her and leaving the country. Jerry took the latter option and he emigrated to Brazil. Lynda receives everything he owns, including the club and when the end of the season comes, she decides that she cannot leave the club. Luis ends up going back to Argentina broken hearted where he later married his childhood sweetheart.
