Age 18, Born in Sheffield in 1988, Gemma is very much her father's daughter and like Jimmy, she is a freethinking, passionate and determined character. Currently in her second year of A-Levels, Gemma has had to work hard, but is determined to succeed in whatever career she eventually decides upon.
With Jimmy working in other parts of the country (and sometimes in a different country) most of her life, Gemma has never really bonded with her father. He was always there for birthdays and Christmas, but for the first 18 years of her life, she, and her brother Chris, have been raised almost entirely by their mother, Rachel. Gemma's rebellious nature and opinionated honesty have caused many an argument with her mother and life in the Craig household has become progressively worse over the last 12 months.
Despite her mischievous, ballsy and sometimes disruptive behaviour, Gemma is a smart and savvy young woman, desperate for someone to need and love her. She wants Jimmy to get to know her and show he cares and, whilst never becoming subservient to a man, Gemma would also like to find a partner to share her life with; someone who needed her as much as she needed him.
Upon arriving in Harchester, Gemma instantly falls in love with Liam MacKay, however Liam being on the rebound from his failed marriage is reluctant to make a serious commitment to Gemma. Gemma becomes frustrated and after being given the cold shoulder at the annual Christmas party she drives away from the party in a fit of rage resulting in an accident which sees Gemma put into a coma for the best part of two months. Eventually Gemma awakes but has complete memory loss. Liam helps Gemma to regain her memory, and so their relationship progresses secretly. The couple's secret is soon ousted by the mysterious internet blogger “Dragonslayer” and Jimmy is furious. A guilt ridden Liam ends his relationship with Gemma. Heartbroken Gemma decides to go back to London to live with her mother.
